The MyGovID App has recently been updated to provide the option for individuals to set up a 'Strong' identity strength that includes face verification.
Setting up a strong identity strength will better protect your identity and allow you to access more government services as they become available online.
Those with a device set to automatically update may have already noticed an option to verify their photo and provide additional identity documents to achieve this newest 'Strong' identity strength.
Over the next several weeks a prompted update of the MyGOvID app will be required for all devices and all user will have the opportunity to set up the new level.. If you wish to do it at an earlier time you can update manually.
To set up a storing MyGovID identity you will need, an Australian Passport, at least one other identity document such as a dirvers licence or birth certificate and your photo. This one-off face verification process will scan your face to check that you are both a rela person and the 'right' person in real time.
Where you have verified your Australian Passport, photo and at least one other identity document your identity strength will automatically increase to strong.
These are optional new features and you can choose not to update, ignore the verification options and proceed to online services as normal. You may however require this additional strength at some point in the future to access enhanced online services.
