Checking the progress of your return and instalments.

Over the last 12 months the ATO has been changing the way they communicate with both taxpayers and tax agents.  Their focus has shifted so that almost all communication is now undertaken digitally. This has been fast tracked with the implementation of Single Touch Payroll and the current working from home environment.

Now that PAYG Summaries (Group Certificates) are no longer issued, but rather forwarded to your MyGov account, the ATO App has been updated to assist in the communication process. (Remember even if you have never activated or accessed your MyGov account it is still there with information regarding your employment and superannuation, just waiting for you to access).

This week the Australian Tax Office has issued the Instalments and Activity Statements for the September 2021 quarter.  These have been issued electronically and as part of the new procedures you should have received an email or text notification.  If you have not received notification and you think an instalment may apply to you please contact us for confirmation.

The ATO app allows you to:

• View when lodgements and payments are due
• In the “Accounts “ section view previous transactions and payments
• View a summary of accounts including income tax balances, instalment balances and payment plan details
• Keep your personal details up to date
• View your Employment income for the current year
• View your superannuation information such as funds balances and contribution totals and allows you the opportunity to take action if appropriate

In addition there are tools and calculators within the app to assist you with record keeping for your deductions.  These include:

• the ability to take and store photos of receipts of potentially deductible expenses
• Motor Vehicle LogBook Recording
• Motor Vehicle Expense recording

The ATO App is available on the App Store or via Google Play as with other apps.
